About AlgoAudit

Our Mission

AlgoAudit is an independent consumer advocacy organization dedicated to helping consumers exercise their rights under the 2026 Algorithmic Pricing Disclosure Act (APDA). Our mission is to provide free, accessible tools and resources that empower consumers to detect algorithmic pricing markups and claim their legal refunds.

Since the APDA went into effect on January 1, 2026, retailers have been required to disclose when prices are personalized based on consumer data. However, many consumers are still unaware of their rights or how to exercise them. We're here to bridge that gap.

What We Do

  • Free Price Audit Tool: Our independent audit tool helps you detect algorithmic pricing markups by comparing your personalized price with the baseline market price.
  • Compliance Guides: Comprehensive guides for major retailers (Walmart, Amazon, Target, Delta Airlines) explaining how to exercise your APDA Section 5 rights.
  • Legal Resources: Free Section 5 opt-out letter templates and step-by-step instructions for claiming refunds.
  • Educational Content: Blog articles explaining algorithmic pricing, device fingerprinting, location-based pricing, and other technical concepts in plain language.

Your Rights Under APDA Section 5

Under the 2026 Algorithmic Pricing Disclosure Act Section 5, you have the legal right to:

  • Know when prices are personalized: Retailers must display a "Price set by Algorithm" label when prices are personalized based on your data.
  • Request baseline pricing: You can opt out of personalized pricing and request the non-discriminatory baseline market price.
  • Claim refunds: If a retailer failed to disclose algorithmic pricing, you can request refunds for undisclosed markups.
  • Protection from retaliation: Retailers cannot ban your account, reduce service quality, or revoke benefits for exercising your Section 5 rights.

How Our Audit Tool Works

Our price audit tool uses advanced algorithms to simulate a "clean" user profile—one without purchase history, device signals, or location data—to find the true baseline market price. When you enter the price you see, we:

  1. Simulate a budget-neutral profile to find the baseline price
  2. Compare your personalized price with the baseline
  3. Calculate the exact markup amount and percentage
  4. Generate a detailed audit report you can use as evidence for your Section 5 opt-out request
